The Mobile Meals Youth Advisory Group offers an opportunity to build leadership among youth in the area of nutrition education and community involvement. Participants in the program spend a designated amount of time each month learning about an aspect of nutrition or a related topic. The purpose is for students to learn about programs available in the community that address health, wellness, heart disease, diabetes, weight management and nutrition.
The 2011-12 program will accept up to 20 participants, with an organizational meeting in August, during which group members will help determine topics for the program and involvement in relevant community activities. Monthly meetings will continue through May 2012 and each meeting will last 60-90 minutes. Past activities include:
• Speakers on topics relating to sensitivity toward the frail and elderly
• Participation at health fairs as a MMI table volunteer
• Projects relating to nutrition and the community.
Time may count toward school service hours.
